Message from Chair

Dear Seniors, Colleagues and Advocates,

As the Chairman of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Chapter, Nepal paediatric Society, I humblely request to you a pressing issue facing in Pediatric oncology field: limited access to pediatric cancer treatment in developing countries like Nepal. Annually, there are 1400-1500(Aprox) children and adolescent below 19 years suffering from cancer diseases where as only half of them reached to treating centre. Half of them used to abandon treatment due to financial, social  and others causes.  Even we get best treatment up to 80% cure rate in childhood cancer, only 20 % of total children with cancer used to survive in contrast to 80% in developed countries.

Every child deserves the best possible chance at overcoming cancer and catastrophic disease regardless of where they live. Unfortunately, many communities around the world lack adequate resources and infrastructure to provide comprehensive pediatric oncology care where Nepal is not exceptional.

Today, I call upon our all paediatrician who are backbone of child health and Pediatric Oncologist who are dedicated to treat pediatric cancer children with their full effort within available resources. So I want to request all member of our society to unite in a collective effort to expand access to pediatric cancer treatment every corner of our country. We must collaborate with local, provincial and central healthcare providers, policymakers, and advocates and groups to identify barriers and implement sustainable solutions.

Whether through initiatives on early detection of warning signsof childhood cancer and early referrals to treating centres, adequate training programs for local healthcare professionals, or advocacy for increased funding, each of us has a role to play in this critical endeavor.

Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of children battling cancer in underserved areas. Let us uphold our commitment to excellence and compassion by ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against pediatric cancer. No child should fight alone with cancer. Let’s join hands on its Nobel cause.

Thank you for your dedication to this vital cause.

Sincerely,

Dr. Krishna sagar Sharma,
